Fairfield, CA - Marilee Snider is being recognized by
Continental Who’s Who as a Distinguished Professional in the Special Education
field and in acknowledgment of her work at the Fairfield Suisun Unified School
District.
With 53 years dedicated to the education of children, Mrs.
Snider is a respected Educator and Special Education Teacher. Mrs. Snider
always knew she wanted to be a teacher. She pursued that goal, starting by
earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and a minor in
Social Science from San Diego State University in 1962.
During her first ten years as an elementary school educator, she felt the need
to know more about why some students have such difficulty learning, and she
decided to specialize and focus on students with special needs. Mrs. Snider
attended the University of California, Riverside. Though she was teaching
full-time and raising three children at the time, she graduated with a Master
of Arts Degree in Special Education and Diagnostics in 1975. During the next
ten years, as she continued to learn about her field of Education, she attended
the University of San Francisco, where she earned a Master of Arts Degree in
Administration and Supervision in 1985. She has earned a General Elementary
Life Credential, a Certified Life Learning Handicapped Specialist Credential,
an Administration and Supervision Preliminary Credential, and holds a
Cross-Cultural Language and Development Certificate from the State of
California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
After working for the San Diego Unified School District for three years and a
district in Riverside, California, she began working in the Fairfield-Suisun
Unified School District in 1977 where she stayed for 40 years. She has extensive
experience in Grades 2-8 and working with Learning Disabilities groups and
spent 14 years working with Severe Behavior Disordered students. Mrs. Snider
worked as the Solano County Diagnostic Center diagnostic teacher for six years.
She has been named Teacher of the Year by her fellow teachers, conducted many
in-service workshops for both new and experienced teachers, and has continued
this and volunteered in classrooms in the Fairfield-Suisun District since her
retirement.
Remaining aware of developments in the field of Education, she is a member of
the CAL-RTA California Retired Teachers Association and is a member and former
Co-President and President of Delta Kappa Gamma.
After teaching for more than five decades, Mrs. Snider entered retirement in 2015.
Her love of kids has led to her helping teachers with disruptive students on a
freelance basis. She is also teaching interactive reading to third graders in
her spare time. She looks forward to continuing to work with teachers and their
students for a long time to come.
She enjoys traveling, socializing with friends, and spending time with
family.
