Venice, FL – Laura Rainer, MD, is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Top Endocrinologist for her exceptional work in the field of Endocrinology and Metabolic Disorders.
As an endocrinologist located in Florida, Dr Rainer treats patients with a range of diseases and issues, such as diabetes, thyroid disorders, osteoporosis, pituitary abnormalities and other hormonal dysfunctions. She is committed to the well-being of every one of her patients.
She began her medical journey in 1989 by studying medicine at the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Romania, earning her Doctor of Medicine degree. Eager to continue her education, she then completed a residency from 2001-2004 and a Fellowship from 2005-2006 at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, Los Angeles.
As a member of the Gulf Coast Medical Group since 2006, she joined a growing roster of primary care physicians and other specialists in the Sarasota County area. In her role at Gulf Coast Medical Group, she specializes in treating diabetes, thyroid disorders, osteoporosis, pituitary abnormalities, and other hormonal dysfunction. Issues with the endocrine glands and hormones can affect the whole body, including mood, growth, reproduction, and metabolism. Patients may notice symptoms like swollen glands, changes in mood, temperature intolerance, unexplained weight changes or patients may be referred to the practice by a general practitioner when there are concerns during their general evaluation.
Dr. Rainer has many years of experience in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolic disorders. She is passionate about caring for her patient’s well-being in every step of their treatment process. Dr. Rainer believes in explaining the illness and the decisions about treatment options, not just giving her patients medicine. She can provide physical exams, thyroid ultrasound imaging, fine-needle aspiration to diagnose hormonal disorders. She will also recommend additional tests as radioactive iodine uptake scans, pituitary gland MRIs, orbit CT scans, adrenal CT scans, laboratory blood tests, that can detect various endocrinologic issues. A thyroid-stimulating hormone assessment (TSH) can show how well the thyroid works, but often additional lab tests are needed to fully diagnosed a thyroid problem. Same is true for many endocrine conditions.
She is Board-Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Nutrition – initial certification 2006-2016; she has recertified for 2016-2026. Dr. Rainer has also been certified in Internal Medicine and by the American Board of Pediatrics; however, currently she is focused on Endocrinology.
Awards for her work include the Castle Connolly Regional Top Doctors: 1st Edition award, Sarasota Magazine Top Doctor 2018, 2019, 2020, and Exceptional Women in Medicine 2020. In her spare time, Dr. Rainer enjoys spending days at the beach and sailing.
