Saunderstown, RI - Deborah Cahill, MD, is being recognized
by Continental Who’s Who as a Distinguished
Healthcare Professional, acknowledging her excellence as a Pediatric
Anesthesiologist at Hasbro Children’s Hospital, the pediatric division of Rhode
Island Hospital.
A committed, board-certified anesthesiologist
with 37 years of experience, Dr Cahill sees patients within the Department of
Anesthesiology at Rhode Island Hospital’s Hasbro Children’s Hospital and Miriam
Hospital in Providence, RI. She is the director of anesthesia at the R.I.
Surgery Center in Warwick and also serves as an Assistant Professor of
Anesthesiology at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. The
doctor has great empathy for her patients and works to keep them safe and
comfortable.
Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative
care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia,
intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine.
Anesthesiologists are primarily responsible for monitoring the patient’s vital
signs during surgery. In addition to basic measurements such as pulse, blood
pressure, and temperature, they measure the patient’s respiration and make
critical adjustments to the anesthesia while closely communicating with the
surgical team.
Rhode Island Hospital is the state’s largest hospital and its only Level I
trauma center and verified burn center. The principal teaching hospital of The
Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, the facility provides
comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services as well as expertise in cancer
treatment, cardiology, emergency medicine, neurosciences, orthopedics, and
more.
Graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology from the
University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Dr. Cahill earned her Medical Degree
(M.D.) at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 1985. She completed
her internship and residency in internal medicine at St. Vincent’s Hospital in
1988 and her residency in anesthesiology at the Tufts-New England Medical
Center in 1995. Finally, the doctor completed her fellowship in pediatric
anesthesiology at the same academic institution in 1996. After her education,
Dr. Cahill attained board certification in anesthesiology through the American
Board of Anesthesiology (ABA).
Professionally, Dr. Cahill is an active member of the American Society of
Anesthesiologists, the Society of Pediatric Anesthesiology, the Rhode Island
Society of Anesthesiologists, the Rhode Island Medical Society and Bylaws
Committee, the American Medical Association, and the Rhode Island Medical
Society.
Dr. Cahill dedicates this recognition to the loving memory of her father, Mr.
William Cahill. She also wishes to acknowledge her mentors, Paula Bokesch, MD,
and B.B. Wunderlich, MD.
