CARY A. PRESANT, MD, FACP, FASCO - HEMATOLOGIST-ONCOLOGIST

San Marino, CA —Cary A. Presant, MD, FACP, FASCO is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Lifetime Achiever in Hematology and Oncology and for his professional excellence within private practice and in affiliation with the City of Hope.

 

Since 1979, Dr. Cary A. Presant has been a practicing hematologist and medical oncologist in Southern California, having garnered a laudable reputation for his professional excellence. Throughout his extensive career, he had always been involved in laboratory and clinical investigations to remain active in his field. He was the director of cancer programs at Washington University School of Medicine, the Jewish Hospital of St. Louis, Citrus Valley Health Partners, and St. Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles. Following a post as director of medical oncology at the City of Hope, he started a private practice in West Covina in 1982 and later became president of California Cancer Medical Center, a freestanding comprehensive cancer center. In 2004, he merged his Center with Wilshire Oncology Medical Group Inc. Currently, he is a clinical professor of medicine at City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, CA.

 

Dr. Presant completed his undergraduate studies in 1962 at the University of Buffalo, followed by obtaining his Medical Degree at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1966. He furthered his medical training with an internship at the Columbia University Presbyterian Hospital from 1966 to 1967 and an internal medicine residency at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO from 1969 to 1970. With a commitment to excellence, Dr. Presant became a staff associate and Fellow in Hematology/Oncology at the National Cancer Institute in 1969, a Fellow in Hematology/Oncology at the Washington University School of Medicine, and a Postdoctoral Fellow in Biochemistry at Washington University in 1973. Additionally, Dr. Presant is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Hematology. He became an Assistant Professor at Washington University in 1972, and a Professor of ‘clinical Medicine at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine in 1982.

 

Remaining abreast of the latest advancements in his field, Dr. Presant maintains active memberships with the American Association for Cancer Research, the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, and the California Medical Association.

 

Highly recognized throughout the country, Dr. Presant’s leadership has extended to other cancer physicians and organizations. He is the past president of the California Division of the American Cancer Society, and past president and current emeritus chairman of the board of the Medical Oncology Association of Southern California. On a national level, Dr. Presant was a past director of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the world’s largest association of cancer physicians. He served for five years as ASCO’s representative to the House of Delegates of the American Medical Association, where he was also secretary of the Cancer Caucus and an expert adviser to the Diagnosis and Therapy Technology Assessment Program. The American Medical Association named Dr. Presant to represent them to the United States Commission on Cancer. Dr. Presant is also the past president of the Association of Community Cancer Centers.

 

An expert in his field, Dr. Presant has authored over 400 scientific articles. His writing has included book chapters and individual articles on cancer treatment, chemotherapy sensitivity testing to predict the best therapy for patients, cancer detection, chemotherapy, experimental tumor biology, pharmacology, liposomes for cancer diagnosis and therapy, magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and measurement of quality of life in cancer patients.

 

In his spare time, Dr. Presant enjoys snow skiing, playing tennis, golfing, and being physically active. He is especially interested in magic and photography. He also loves spending time and traveling with his wife and family.
