Dr. Janet B. Arrowsmith has built a distinguished career spanning medicine, public health, and consulting, supported by deep expertise in internal medicine, epidemiology, and regulatory science. Since 2008, she has served as president and sole proprietor of Arrowsmith Consulting LLC, providing specialized medical, epidemiological, and regulatory guidance to organizations operating under U.S. Food and Drug Administration oversight as well as providing expert reports and testimony related to FDA regulated industries.
Dr. Arrowsmith earned her medical degree from Tulane University and completed residency training in internal medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a fellowship in epidemiology through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Over the course of her career, she has maintained a strong commitment to advancing public health through both clinical practice and regulatory leadership.
Prior to launching her consulting firm, Dr. Arrowsmith held numerous influential roles across federal health agencies and clinical settings. She worked extensively with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, contributing to regulatory oversight and scientific evaluation in multiple divisions. Her work included serving as acting office director for the nascent Office of Epidemiology and Biometrics in the Center for Devices and Radiological Health. She also participated in the review of new antiviral drug products within the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. After leaving FDA, she served as a senior specialty consultant and primary care provider with the Mescalero Apache Indian Health Service Hospital and practiced internal medicine in rural New Mexico.
Her public health service also includes leadership within HIV programs in the U.S. Public Health Service, where she supported prevention and treatment information initiatives and helped create panels of experts addressing the diagnosis and treatment of HJIV and AIDS. She remains professionally affiliated with the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the New Mexico Medical Association, and the American College of Epidemiology. In addition, she served as board president of NM Organized Against Human Trafficking (NM OATH) and currently serves on the board of both Trinity House Catholic Worker in Albuquerque and Prison Lights Inc, an organization bringing attention to the lack of appropriate health care in prison systems in the U.S.
Outside of her professional work, Dr. Arrowsmith enjoys spending time with her three grandchildren as well as biking and horseback riding. She credits her late father, William R. Arrowsmith, as a lasting source of inspiration throughout her life and career.
